Searching for authenticity
Searching for authenticity
At Café we base our philosophy on three pillars: the search for authenticity, a passion for the small details, and respect for well-made things. Café is our way of understanding life expressed through authentic products. Products made by the best artisan hands of Ubrique (Spain) and with the best raw materials on the market. One of our secrets lies in the use of the best 100% vegetable-tanned leather. All our processes are environmentally friendly.
Be Authentic. Stay Curious.

Products made to last, like the old days.
Tired of buying products with clearly planned obsolescence, and in that eagerness to produce cheaper and faster, we seem to forget one of the most important things in any product: The soul.
Since then, our mission has been to bring back all these good traditions. That way of doing things that our grandparents had when time was slower and details were everything. Focus on doing things to last, with care, and always looking for the best sustainable raw materials. Materials where all the senses come into play, except for the taste (although sometimes we have been tempted to try our leather in a salad or something similar).
Luckily, and although they are in danger of extinction, there are still small artisan villages that have not lost that essence or that know-how. We have travelled a lot to learn about these traditions, both in Spain and around the rest of the world and without a doubt, it has been worth it.

Why Café?
We are often asked this question. Let’s be clear, we are crazy about Coffee. We can’t comprehend a day without our caffeine hit, but this is not the main reason why we are Café. When we launched the brand, we realized that there were many similarities between our products and Specialty Coffee. All our manufacturing processes are absolutely handcrafted and focused on detail. The exact same things happen in each of the phases of specialty coffee manufacturing, from the handmade harvest to the preparation by the barista expert. Besides, the vegetable tanned leather, as the coffee, is tremendously sensorial.
Finally, one of the main differences between specialty coffee and commercial coffee, is the sustainable agriculture and processes. To be able to obtain unique flavours in the mug, it is essential to use ecological growing techniques. At Café Leather we do the same. All our processes, from skin tanning with natural extracts, to the manufacturing of our products by the best artisan hands of Ubrique (Spain), are completely handcrafted and they follow ecological and sustainable processes.

Our Leather
Leather is one of the raw materials our ancestors appreciated most. Since leather is a breathable material, people began investigating how to preserve its raw quality and how to make it more durable. This is what we call tanning. The process of 100% vegetable tanning is one that is done in the most natural and environmentally respectful way possible, as was done before, without using chemicals to help lower costs. One of the main characteristics of vegetable tanned leather is that its pores are left open, allowing the leather to create a unique and beautiful patina over time.

Our Artisans
Located at the foot of the spectacular Sierra de Grazalema, appearing amongst rocks and cork trees, is one of the so-called white villages of the mountains of Cadiz: Ubrique. This small Spanish village is probably the home of the best artisans in the leather world, learning from generation to generations and taking their job as a way of life.

Fabrics
As said before, we only work with the finest and most respectful materials.
Our suppliers offer us their knowledge passed from generation to generation to produce materials that look for excellence. That is why we use the finest Organic Cotton, Tencel or our famous waxed canvas developed by old Fishermens from the north of England.

Respect
For us being sustainable is to create products which last for the rest of your life. On our planet, 100 000 millions of clothing per year are produced and more than half of them end up in the rubbish in less than one year. That’s why our designs are based on raw materials which are respectful and high-quality ones, obsessively preserving the small details. We do things the way they did before in order to last longer.
