Few automobiles have left a mark on motorsport quite like the Porsche 917. More than five decades after rewriting the history of endurance racing, this extraordinary machine is once again bringing enthusiasts together for an event unlike anything ever organized before.

This summer, The Global 917 Reunion gathers an exceptional collection of Porsche 917s to celebrate one of the most important racing cars ever built.

The reunion began during the first edition of Le Mans Classic Legend, before continuing as a unique exhibition at Mathieu Lustrerie, in the Provençal village of Gargas, France, where visitors can admire these legendary machines until August 10th.

For Porsche enthusiasts, this is more than an exhibition.

It's history brought back to life.

Why the Porsche 917 Changed Motorsport Forever

When Porsche unveiled the 917 in 1969, it wasn't simply introducing another racing prototype.

It was presenting a machine designed with one goal: winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Powered by its legendary flat-twelve engine and capable of reaching speeds that few racing cars had ever achieved, the 917 transformed endurance racing forever.

In 1970, Porsche finally secured its first overall victory at Le Mans, opening one of the most successful chapters in the company's racing history.

The following years cemented the 917's mythical status.

Its distinctive long-tail bodywork, unmistakable silhouette, and liveries —including the famous Gulf colors and the unforgettable "Hippie"— turned it into one of the most recognizable racing cars ever created.

Even today, the fastest lap ever recorded by a Porsche 917 at Le Mans still stands as a reminder of just how revolutionary the car truly was.

More Than an Exhibition

What makes The Global 917 Reunion so remarkable isn't simply the number of cars assembled.

It's the fact that many of these machines, normally spread across private collections and museums around the world, have been brought together in one place for the very first time.

Following their appearance at Le Mans Classic Legend, the cars now rest inside the extraordinary setting of Mathieu Lustrerie.

Known worldwide for its exceptional craftsmanship, the historic chandelier workshop provides an unexpected backdrop where engineering, design, art, and heritage naturally meet.

It's difficult to imagine a more fitting venue for cars that have long transcended motorsport to become works of art themselves.

A Special Invitation

We were honoured when our friend Arthur Mathieu invited Café Leather to become part of this historic celebration.

Alongside an exhibition of some of our driving gloves and leather goods, we had the privilege of attending the gala dinner surrounded by the very cars that inspired generations of drivers, designers, collectors, and enthusiasts.

Being present at an event of this significance is a reminder of why we continue to admire classic motorsport, not only for the machines themselves, but for the craftsmanship, the stories, and the people who keep them alive.
